Breakfast Gift Baskets – Start a Tradition With A Christmas Breakfast!

We are a family that loves to cook and eat. Christmas and Thanksgiving are traditionally our dinner holiday, and we continue to stick with that tradition as a family.
However, for some excellent Christmas years when it seems like we were all present in one place at the same time and not rushing off for work or meetings or functions, we started a breakfast family tradition.
We invited everyone over for a breakfast brunch and more of our family show up for that than for any other holiday.
We are a breakfast family first and foremost. All other meals are secondary. I am a horrid cook, but my husband is an exceptional cook, so a holiday breakfast is just my thing!
I've learned everything I know working with my mother and grandmother throughout the years putting on events and functions at the drop of the hat for family and friends.
Thanks to Grandma (God Bless her), we add sausage to our holiday stuffing. It also goes great with Hollandaise sauce, poached, scrambled or fried eggs and ham or turkey too.
Add that to the fact that it can be prepared for both breakfast AND dinner at the same time – Saving you time to spend with family instead of cooking in the kitchen!
That Christmas, our family ate like there was no tomorrow. Sadly, after Christmas breakfast there are normally no leftovers except dishes.
Five reasons to start a Christmas Family Breakfast holiday tradition:
1 – You are probably up at the crack of dawn – especially kids and young children – anyway. You can probably convince other family members easily to come for Breakfast if they have other obligations during the day to attend.
2 - If your budget is tight you can have one or the other and Christmas breakfasts are less expensive than traditional Christmas dinner. Turkey is optional with a breakfast meal, and you feed more people with less food. Budget Tip: Get quick and easy access to dozens of name brand coupons at Coupons.com!
3 – You have an entire day to relax and enjoy instead of an afternoon that leaves you feeling exhausted. That means more family time – Time is the gift that is retold throughout generations. Plus, there is normally less alcohol involved.
4 - Eating breakfast is healthier and can actually help you fight off those bad calories that are harder to burn if you are less active over Christmas. If you eat earlier, you'll be more active during the day – Another weight fighter bonus!
5 – You begin your Christmas memory on a positive note! You get to eat in your pajamas if you want to. Can you imagine the warm, fuzzy feeling you'll get with a nice breakfast to begin your day of holiday enjoyment? If for no other reason, you'll receive the gift of a Christmas memory that is retold for years to come.
Bonus Reason -
You'll get to try something new in the way of creating a Family Christmas Tradition.

- COFFEE!
Coffee Facts To Explain Why:
Caffeine stimulates and excites the brain. If you consume caffeine (coffee) in moderation versus drinking a full pot by yourself everyday, there should be few (if any) dependency issues for you. However, some people can come to depend on caffeine.
Some studies show that moderate coffee consumption may reduce your risk of diabetes, gallstones, Parkinson's disease, and liver disease. However – doctors aren't recommending caffeine consumption as a way to decrease your risks of disease.
Do pregnancy and coffee go together? The studies and reviews are mixed on this, but always consider the fact that what you absorb into your body – so does your baby. Moderation is the key, but abstinence may be the best course while you are pregnant.
Breastfeeding Moms and Coffee – The American Academy of Pediatrics states: "A morning cup of coffee is not likely to harm your baby, but too much caffeine can cause problems such as poor sleeping, nervousness, irritability, and poor feeding."
Have your coffee at home. Caffeine content can vary (and almost double) at coffee shops according to these things:
- brewing method
- bean type
- amount - small, medium, large cup or roasting pot size prepared by the store.

Stick with morning breakfast coffee. Afternoon coffee can take 5-6 hours for your body to expel and eliminate and can mess up sleeping patterns. If you have a sensitive system, the effects may last longer yet.
Coffee expands the blood vessels in your brain so that headache medications travel faster and you receive faster relief.
Coffee keeps you younger looking – Caffeine is significant ingredient in many skin care products.
The bad rap myth on coffee dehydration – Even beverages that have caffeine, will help maintain hydration.

My first memories of Breakfast Gift Baskets are still fresh as eggs for me.

Growing up in our house was chaotic at best in the mornings! First we heard mom up and rummaging through the house, then dad shortly behind her, preparing to take care of the morning chores before he could get ready for work. We grew up on a farm where you had to rise with the sun to get everything done before you headed out for either rush hour traffic to go to work, or the school bus that got to our house and back 2 hours before school started and 2 hours after it ended, because we lived so far away.
Dad was the primary breakfast cook – not because mom slept in, oohh no . . . she was BUSY! It was because dad made a better breakfast chef than mom and we all knew it, because her cooking skills became a running family joke that mom put up with for her lifetime. Dad always made something special to put on moms plate -like a pancake snowman – and called it her special "breakfast gift." It was about then that my brother and I started rolling our eyes, laughing out loud, and groaning, " . . .Oh brother," at no one in particular.
Well, . . . we all know it and it has become a fact that can't be denied – 'breakfast' is the most important meal of the day. That's just one reason why breakfast gift baskets are so special.
This meal gets so much attention because it comes after a break of 8 – 10 hours; hence your blood sugar level is low. Since your body has gone without food for that extended period, it needs nourishment to kick-start its day. Therefore, "breakfast" is considered a nutritiously important and essential meal of the day.
Breakfast Gift Baskets benefit both, young and old. It is the key to blast off your muscles and your day.
Studies show that people who eat a healthy daily breakfast are more likely to:
- Consume more vitamins, minerals and less of fat and cholesterol.
- Experience increased strength and endurance.
- Have better concentration and productivity all day long.
- Exercise more control over their weight
- Benefit from lower cholesterol levels
Also, children who eat breakfast are likely to have better concentration, problem-solving skills and eye-hand coordination. They are more alert, creative, and less likely to miss school days.
If you think skipping breakfast will help you lose weight, think again. By passing breakfast over, your body goes into starvation mode and makes you crave snacks - especially sweets. Impulsive snacking on unhealthy foods can lead to weight gain.
For those who want to add fruit to their breakfast gift baskets, consider these popular options: Apples, Pears Citrus: Oranges, grapefruits, nectarines, tangerines, and Clementine's, Pineapples, Grapes and Berries, Unique Fruits: Depending on the type of breakfast gift basket you are sending, you may decide to include unique fruits – consider adding kiwi, star fruit, plantains, and even coconuts if the recipient enjoys this.
So, I raise my glass of morning orange juice and salute the two finest people who ever existed and who helped teach us the importance of not only breakfast, but special breakfast gift baskets. Here's to you both, dad and mom!

Breakfast Gift Baskets Welcomes the Fourth of July

Start Your Celebration With your Own Breakfast Gift Basket!
"On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence.
At that time, the people of the 13 British colonies located along the eastern coast of what is now the United States were involved in a war over what they considered unjust treatment by the king and parliament in Britain.
The war began in 1775. As the war continued, the colonists realized that they were fighting not just for better treatment; they were fighting for freedom from England's rule.
Philadelphians marked the first anniversary of American independence with a spontaneous celebration, observing Independence Day only became commonplace after the War of 1812. Thereafter celebrations broke out in several different places by way of things like ground breaking ceremonies that were scheduled to take place on the same day as the 4th of July.
Since the 1870s, the Fourth of July was the most important secular holiday listed on the calendar.
Celebrations and stage speeches always had one pattern. First the speaker would challenge England to a fight and berate the King and say that he was a skunk. This was known as, 'twisting the lion's tail'. Then the next theme was that anyone could find freedom and liberty on our shores. The speaker would invite those who were heavy laden in other lands to come to us and find peace. The speeches were pretty fiery and by that time the men who drank got into fights and called each other Englishmen. In the afternoon we had what we called the 'plug uglies' — funny floats and clowns who took off on the political subjects of the day…The Fourth was the day of the year that really counted back then." ("Rural Life in the 1870s," Portland, Oregon, Walker Winslow, interviewer, December 15, 1938)
"After the American Revolution, towering bonfires were lit the night before the Fourth and bells, guns and cannons broke the morning.
After the war, the average American found the cost of imported European fireworks much too high.
Not until after 1816 and the start of a home industry would fireworks once more become a common feature of the celebration. But towering bonfires were lit the night before and bells, guns, and cannons broke the morning. Liberty poles were raised and capped. Children hung Benedict Arnold in effigy until the memory of his treachery faded. Graying veterans reminisced while overseeing heroic reenactments of their town's great battles, and, as it was said, "made the eagle scream."
Public spectacle was added to city festivities in the 1830s. A typical Fourth of July in New York City began with the roar of cannons and the unfurling of flags, pennants, and streamers from the masts of hundreds of ships around the harbor."
Many celebrations involve flowers, parades and special gifts or gift baskets for loved ones and loved ones who are house-bound or those who have passed.
After all these years we take the fourth of July celebration for granted and use it as an opportunity to take in exhibitions of fireworks that light up the sky and family times that are retold for generations. One of my earliest recollection of the Fourth of July is of a starry night, looking out over the forest of trees to see our sparklers light up our own private world – much to our childish delight! As the farm animals scattered and dogs barked and ran in circles anxiously looking for places to hide, I could see the explosions at the local high school field down in the valley from our grandparents farm.
Although it felt like the excitement lasted for hours, bedtime came much too quickly! Even the adults milling about the picnic table, sipping coffee, tea, or beer let out sighs of disappointment when the fireworks came to an end.
That's what makes for great memories!
At Breakfast Gift Baskets we hope your holiday breakfast celebration is safe and full of cherished memories, and to the people who are gone, we wish your family peace. To the service men and women, we say, "Thank-You!"

Easter – Origins and Myths
How Did Easter "Get Here?"
For Christians, Easter has origins established decades before Christianity – about 2,000 years before. Easter celebrates and recognizes the death and rebirth of Jesus Christ.
Where did the Easter Bunny come from?
Historically speaking, it was the Anglo-Saxons pagan religion that started it all. Easter around the world is used as a time to celebrate and honor and pay tribute to fertility and rebirth. We got the name Easter from the Germans, who spelled it, "Eastre."
Easter is also known as Oestre or Eostre (the German goddess of fertility, also called the German goddess of Spring – popular in 6th Century BC). It is the civil war that is credited for enthusiastically bringing this holiday to America.
Emperor Constantine, together with the council on Nicaea, in 325 A.D., decided that Easter would fall on the first Sunday of the Spring equinox – after the first full moon. Since that decree, Easter has been celebrated on the Sunday between March 22 and April 25th.
The mythical story of Eostre always fascinated me. If you haven't heard it, then it goes something like this: Eostre found a beautiful bird that was hurt and could not fly, so she magically made the injured bird a rabbit that could still lay eggs, like the beautiful bird. Out of gratitude for saving her life, the rabbit gave Eostre a gift of brightly colored eggs in a beautiful basket. This fable became a tradition in Europe that lasted throughout the mid 1800's.
After that time, chocolate eggs were introduced and migrants populated other areas with tales of Eostre. Historical evidence also points to other ancient cultures painting eggs and celebrating the folk-tale of Eostre (or something related to it closely).
There is evidence that Chinese, Middle Easterners, Western Europe populations and South African peoples celebrated Easter too.
Easter Around the World- Easter Symbols
But it is the Easter bunny that maintains a fascination for children. According to historical myth, the rabbit can procreate quickly and humans desired that they be blessed with at least some of that. And, if you ever lived on a farm and raised rabbits then you know, those 'myths' about rabbits aren't KIDDING! We started out with two rabbits on our farm and quickly had 30 rabbits in no time at all. Unfortunately we named every one of those rabbits so mom had to tell us they were chickens when they showed up on the dinner table, instead of, "Fluffy" or "Pretty Bunny."
Eggs, are also symbolic of fertility and give added symbolic representation to the Easter Bunny herself.
Before Easter baskets became popular, the story of Eostre explains that baskets were originally nests, hence the fascination with putting grass or fake grass into an Easter basket.
If you'd like to teach your child about the religion behind the celebration of Easter. One way to help kids understand Easter is to read them a good book on the subject.
For a creative visual explanation, you can use the different colored eggs to symbolize some of the meanings. Helping children understand the tradition and meaning behind the Easter holiday helps build family traditions that span lifetimes.
. . . The house is probably waking up about now. Thanks for sharing your hot beverage with us – Enjoy your day!

Breakfast Gift Baskets-For Father's Day AND Graduation
Father's day reminds me of a time when dad would get up early, grab a breakfast skillet and fix breakfast for the whole clan of us on his special morning.
He loved to make our family breakfast and to tell the truth – So did we! I miss him terribly, because my dad is gone now, but never forgotton . . .
Our dad behaved as if the moon and sun sat on our heads. He got mad once in awhile, but those times were always short -lived. It's his laughing, smiling face I see and hold dear now.
Father's Day lets me remember dad with the gift of flowers. I won't go to his graveside, where he lays stone cold – He's not there. I go to a bird sanctuary or a lake or river or a meadow and I take flowers with me and leave them at places like that. That's where my dad always hung out – In the fresh air. It is where he would be, unless (of course) he was fixing us breakfast. Dad would be outside with the fresh air, the birds, and our pets (he especially loved riding our horses) and enjoying the gift of memories and time with us.
